We are looking for dedicated people to help us lead a historic University of Maryland Voter Registration and Get Out
The Vote Effort!
What is The Voter Initiative?
The Voter Initiative is a Get Out the Vote strategy designed by The University of Maryland College Democrats. The
Voter Initiative is being overseen in partnership between the College Democrats, the Student Government Association, the College
Republicans, and the Republican Women at Maryland.
The Voter Initiative seeks to establish voting as a tradition at the University of Maryland, by making the
Get Out the Vote (GOTV) effort localized by residence hall. College students are said to be an apathetic population,
voting will give our voices the strength it deserves!
We will do this by making voting localized and personal.
Each floor per residence hall will have a leader whose job it is to register voters in their hall and get them to the polls
at Stamp on the Presidential primary day on February 12, 2007.
What will be my responsibilities as a leader?
We need your help in this effort!
Become a Leader! Leaders will go around their hall before the primary to arrange a convient time to meet and go
to the polls and then report back the time. We will coordinate times so groups come seperately allowing for smooth voting.
On primary day (February 12th) the leader will knock on everyone's door again and walk with the group over to Stamp,
where the polls will be set up. This amazing leadership opportunity only requires 2 half hour commitments: 1 to
sign people up for a good time to vote, and one to walk with people at that time to the polls on Tuesday February 12th.

YES! In the February 12th primary, a record number of students came out to the polls in Stamp! According to
the Chief Election Judge, the average voter turnout is 89 for a Presidential Primary, on the 12th, nearly 700 voters came
out to vote!
